February 2 - Friday
Don was up at 6:30 and off to the bakery. He woke me up at 8:00 😒 so we could get fuel and get going. We had to wait in line about 15 minutes for fuel. We left about 9:00. It was partly cloudy becoming more cloudy and eventually rained for about 30 minutes when we were just past Pointe de la Capesterre. Then the skies over the water cleared and it was a beautiful afternoon. There are always clouds over the mountains and about 5:30 we saw a beautiful full rainbow followed by a short bout of rain.
We didn't get a good look at the bottom of the boat until we were at the fuel dock. The entire bottom looks like it is covered with long green shag carpeting with some large barnacles for decoration. The water in the marina was too foul for Don to go in and take a look before we left the dock. We knew the growth would affect the boat's speed but we didn't realize how much! It cut our speed by around 15-20 percent!
We motor sailed all day in mostly 5-10 K winds that were SE, becoming East with about an hour's worth of West wind just to keep it interesting.
We kept watching our ETA for Deshaies and decided we could make it very close to sunset. There sun went down at 6:00 and we anchored about 6:30, shortly before it was totally dark. It was very crowded in the harbor and we ended up anchoring in 61 feet of water. Thank goodness for all the extra chain Don added to the anchor line.
We plan to stay here tomorrow to put the dinghy together and try to clean the bottom. We're sitting in a very roll-y cockpit waiting for our lasagna to cook. I think this will not be a good night for sleeping in the V- berth.
Because we are anchored out quite far we are among the big boats. There are at least four HUMONGOUS yachts around us. I'll take pictures in the morning if they're still here.

We traded our boat in. |
Sure sorry about the bottom of your boat being such a mess and the water too yucky to try to clean it before you took off. Boy, it really does make a difference doesn't it ! Beautiful scenery and thanks for the pictures.
