Don Works Hard to Clean his Bottom!
February 3, Saturday
We rolled like crazy last night. Don slept in the quarter berth and I tried sleeping crosswise in the V-berth. We both took sleep aids but didn't sleep much. They are fond of a music here that is mostly non-stop throbbing drums. I've heard it every night so far. Last night it went on until around midnight. I moved to the settee around dawn and then took Don's bed when he got up.
We had strong off-shore gusts during the day which kept us from rocking. It rained a bit during the night but was beautiful all day in spite of the ever present clouds over the mountains, which are very pretty. We moved the boat in so we were anchored in about 45 feet but it started rocking again at about 8:30 p.m.
Don worked very hard all day cleaning the bottom. He got at least 3/4 of the area he could reach cleaned. The brush we'd brought wouldn't get the barnacles of but the non-scratch spatula I suggested works quite well then the brush cleans the rest He tried to get to the prop, which isn't nearly as fouled as the rest of the bottom, but he has a body that resists going under water. He thought about filling his pockets with rocks but then we're afraid he might not come back up in the quest to find just the right weight.
We went ashore about 5:00 to check out with customs. There was a woman selling hand-cranked ice cream that I thought would be a unique treat. The line was slow so we went to check out. When we went back for ice cream she was all out. 😥
We got milk, BBQ sauce and a baguette and then headed for L'AMER, the restaurant that gives a WiFi code if you buy something there. When we were here in November your could use it all day from the boat. We bought a Coke and a pina colada for 14 Euro and found they've changed their system. You can now only get WiFi in the restaurant. We called the girls and checked the Petoskey b-ball score and the weather.
They are predicting fairly strong winds and seas starting on Monday so we are going to leave here whenever Don wakes up, which will probably be 4 or 5 a m. and plan to go all the way to St. Kitts. We should get there around 9 p.m. We'll head into a bay that we're familiar with from staying there in December.
There are probably 50 boats in here tonight but it is amazingly quiet. It's 9 p.m. and so far no drums either.
The weather has been so much nicer than before. The sun is still hot if you can't find some shade but it's low 80's and low humidity. It's really pleasant. It feels a little cooler getting into the water but still nice.
