I'm starting on some long overdue updates for the blog. When Karen and I arrived at Tonawanda, Fred, Linda, Chris, Nancy and Cindy were already there. The guys had all been working on getting the mast ready to be taken off and then placed back on the boat on the cradle Don built for it. We foolishly assumed (never assume!) That the fee for taking the mast down included all the work to take the mast down. It would have in Michigan. Unfortunately, it only included the service of the crane lifting it down once and up once. As soon as Karen and I arrived with the cradle, we unloaded, the first leg crew loaded their stuff and they were off at about 5:45 pm. Our visitors left about 6:30. Karen and I began putting food away while Fred and Don kept working on the mast. At 8:00 they stopped and we tried to get a pizza delivered. After not getting much cooperation, they walked to the pizza place and we are about 9:00 pm. Went to bed about 11 or 11:30 but no one slept well. To much road traffic, honking geese and ducks, and boats going by. - Deb (10/7/17)
Met up with cousins today as they sailed in to North Tonowanda all the way from Petoskey, Michigan. We removed the sail and mast so they can go under the bridges and through the locks. Next crew takes it the entire length of the Erie Canal, down the Hudson to the coast. Ultimate destination...somewhere in the Caribbean! - Christopher Robinson (Facebook) (first photo, Deb, remaining photos in this post, Chris)
