Evening Anchorage at Sandy Hook, New Jersey

After a light rain last night, we woke to cloudy skies and the megaphone greetings of departing charter boat captains to their customers. Deb & Don showed up with groceries and freshly laundered clothes. Deb and Karen spent the rest of the morning putting the new provisions away for the next crew of lazy men who sat in the cockpit and chatted.

After packing their gear and final goodbyes, Deb and Karen headed out for Fred's home (in the car that we had driven down the day before). This would be a 4-5 hour drive.  The message we got was that shortly after they arrived they had a deluge of rain and the power went out.

The captain and new crew readied the boat for the next leg of BrainWaves journey - Bermuda. We moved the boat out of the marina to a protective anchorage in the harbor. It was mostly cloudy all day but very pleasant and in the low 70's. At 4pm we took the dingy and headed to town for an early dinner. After a Chinese meal, we headed back to the boat.

We can see the New York City skyline from the boat. It might be hard to see in the photos.

The forecast changed once again and the potentially bad weather for our trip to Bermuda increased. We decided to head south along the coast tomorrow to Cape May. It should be about a 27 hour sail. We plan to leave in the morning around 8 or 9 and sail through the night. We will go into Cape May, hopefully around noon, and check out the weather situation and make a decision about our next step. Do we have a weather slot to head off to Bermuda, or will we have to continue heading down the coast? Time will tell!  - Rod
