Trip Highlights So Far As Seen Through Fred's Eyes

Day one. Calm seas "around the horn" to anchor on the south side of Bois Blanc.   Don and Dave "swim" off the boat line. Stars abundant, classic cruse night.

Days two and three. Motor sailed in calm seas. We decided to sail over night. When my 2 to 6 watch started Don noticed that the alternator was not charging. So we sailed but did not shut off the engine.  The tach had conked out earlier.  Mark resourced a part for the alternator which Don had delivered over night to the Port Sanilac marina and we stayed in the harbor that night. Dinner at the Hungry Pig barbecue and we had showers!

Day four. A New Zealander did the repair on the alternator and magically fixed the tach.
we set sail at 2pm. Great day, following seas, lots of freighters to see and pizza in Port Huron.  Stayed in the marina.

Day five. Rock and roll thur St Clair river and lake St Clair. Steady 20/25 knots and gusts 40/50. Plus fast current. Forgot to close the hatch and Dons bunk got wet.
Decision time along the Detroit river. Question? stay at marina at entrance to Lake Erie at six p.m. or push on five more hours to Put-In Bay.  Don wanted to sail on but crew leaned toward a berth, showers, and spaghetti and garlic bread.  Don acquiesced to crew and negotiated very shallow channel into the marina made worse by day long winds blowing water "down lake".
We ran aground and had to kedge off. So plan "b" is hot dogs and Put-in Bay. We are now underway.  A more suspicious person than me would suspect the captain of creating the need for plan "b". But really, who am I to say.  Lots of stars and wind.  A real rollacoster.

General observations;  warmer than predicted, good food ( particularly first cup of coffee), some really good sailing, enough hairy moments to keep interest sharp, constant good fellowship, and we are no where near out of stories.
22:30, now need to amend warmer comment.

Day six. Rough ride but made Put-In Bay after midnight. Tried several out island anchorages first. Then attempted to snag a mooring ball, no go.  Anchored among them and had a good night, sans the one ball that banged like crazy for a time.
Underway at 8:45. NE winds around 25, 4 to 6+ seas with occasional waves over the Bimini top. It's now 13:35 and, although the seas are still big, with the sun out it's turned into Camp Granada!
