Update from Fred
Day seven. Stayed in the NEYC last night. The North East Yacht Club, NE of Cleveland. A very friendly "blue collar" group. We ate on the boat because we were warned not to walk out side the grounds into the "hood".
Underway after 7. Very pleasant cruising, captain at the wheel.
Observation and comment to future crews: reflecting on the night passage to Put-In Bay and day six sail to Cleveland, both of which were challenging, the captains mantra is "trust the boat", to which I would add "trust the captain".
More day seven. Good motor sail all day. Winds SE building to 20 with chop. Anchored in Conneaut Ohio close to Pennsylvania border. Our harbor neighbor is Roger Blough, see below;
Day eight. Our freighter neighbor having departed earlier in the night we were up at 5 and away in the starlit, trying to capture the wind before it's on the nose.
14:20 and the alternator is on the fritz again. Beautiful day, light winds and sunshine. At 12:30 Dave noticed that the tach was zero and the volts declining. We're headed for Dunkirk NY and the promise of a mechanic.
Day nine. We stayed in the Dunkirk NY marina, which according to Commodore big Mike is the only marina built completely over water. They own no land.
Paul, a journeyman boat mechanic, fixed the alternator. Dinner at a Greek restaurant topped off the night.
Underway at 7, south winds 15-25.
