Arrival at Anagoda

During the trip from Bermuda to Tortola, the alternator bracket broke (again). Don tore the engine apart and replaced the newer alternator with the original one and also replace the bracket support with a new one that was machined for him before he left on the trip. We went through several local squalls, just missing them, right before the breakdown. While Don worked on the motor, assisted by Tom S., Tom T. and I stayed in the cockpit. A massive, ugly looking squall was forming off to our port side and it looked like the mushroom cloud shape from a nuclear weapon. It looked very impressive and fortunately it drifted off behind us. After the boat was repaired and running again, we passed through several smaller squalls, usually catching the outskirts of them with lots of rain and some stronger winds.

We arrived at Anagoda and anchored just off shore in a buoy area. Both Toms were amazed at the devastation to the island. They were very familiar with the area we were anchored. People were obviously at work on the island, trying to get things cleaned up, repaired and running again. There was one other small, older powerboat at our location. Tom said the place usually has 50 or more boats during the peak season, maybe double that. We were early, but it's hard to believe the place will be that busy this year.

Anagoda. The dock is off to the left, just out of the picture.

We took a quick swim, had supper and settled down for the night at anchor.
